It’s October, which means Halloween is almost here. Halloween means fun costumes, scary movies, and trunk or treat. If you’re getting ready for a trunk or treat event, check out these five tips for a successful trunk or treat in Long Island.

1. Pick a theme

Halloween decorations are great, but they’re even better when they follow a theme. When you’re setting up your car for trunk or treat, you want to pick a theme for your decor. Consider a kid’s TV show or movie to get trick or treaters excited. You can also pick a scary theme, like a spooky pirate ship or a haunted house.

2. Add special effects

To take your trunk or treat to the next level, add some special effects. Scary sounds and music or glowing lights can transform your vehicle. If you want to play music, make a 20 to 30 minute playlist and play it on a loop. Make sure your music and effects match the theme of your decorations.

3. Make your display interactive

An interactive display is a fun display. Trick or treaters can go up to your car, take some candy, and walk away, or you can create an exciting experience for the kids. Set up a photo booth or unique games to entertain the trick or treaters.

4. Dress up

You’re decorating your car, so you may as well dress to match. Pick out an on-theme costume and get in the zone. You can even talk in a character voice to complete your outfit and your display.

5. Think outside the box

Don’t be afraid to get creative. Once you come up with a theme, take it as far as you can. For example, if you’re setting up a witch-themed display, pass out candy from a cauldron or serve up some witch’s brew. The possibilities are endless when it comes to trunk or treat.
